The history of gloss in Russia

First magazines appeared in Europe in the early XVII century. However, the original paper they were rough and yellow, the picture is represented by a painted illustration. Only when the industry started to grow rapidly, the opportunity to use in publications photos. The first editions were black and white with a matte gloss finish. Only in the 30-ies of the XIX century, the printing industry has the opportunity to use different colors.

Predecessors gloss became popular in Russia during Soviet times women's magazines "Worker" and "Peasant" and "DIY" for men.

Of course, first and foremost, they focused on work, but on the last pages were placed and interesting notes on the subject of needlework.

Oddly enough, but the paper of these books were glossy, though, and a bit yellowish.
