The history of Cosmopolitan in Russia

Today, the gloss reading at home on the couch or on public transport. For a long time in every foster dental clinic, a Barber shop or a café there is a special stand or table — coffee in the truest sense of the word.

People sit in a queue or waiting for your cappuccino, and at hand they always have several magazines, among which Cosmopolitan is necessarily present.

The first issue of Russian Cosmo

His wildly popular Cosmo in Russia received immediately, taking the leading position among domestic gloss and holding her still. Thanks to the Western concept of the magazine in the mid-90s it became №1 among Russian women of all ages – though the target audience was and still is in the framework of "16 to 30 years."

According to General Director of the publishing house Sanoma Independent Media (and the first editor of "Cosmopolitan Russia"), Elena Myasnikova, the log should not grow old together by the editors: "This means that the concept is not. In some age magazine Сosmopolitan depart. And as growing up we always tried to find young authorswho would know, which star adequate today this age, some singers and music listening, movies watching. My tastes do not always coincide with the choice of Cosmopolitan, and they should not affect the content."

Here was largely affected by the reader's hunger for alternative "Worker" and "Peasant". Instead of reports about the soldiers of socialist labor, recipes sour cream mask to improve the complexion and new ways to find use in everyday life torn nylon stockings came articles about career, advice on how to apply blush on the cheekbones to make the face look seductive, and 10 receptions of seduction any man.

Today has already grown "glossy" generation of young people for whom Cosmopolitan in Russian there was their whole lives – like jeans, chocolate bars, and the Internet. And at the time of the first issue in Russia, the publishers faced a number of challenges – first and foremost, human. The fact that none of the graduates of journalism or "sharks of a feather" with the Soviet experience had no idea what style to do the lyrics for Cosmo.

the editors of Cosmo: Ellen Ferbeek, Elena Myasnikova and Elena Vasilieva

The first editors were Elena Myasnikova and Ellen Verbeek, their tandem has lasted 10 years.

According to Myasnikova, ideas for articles they collected everywhere: "Ellen, because she reads both English and French, and Dutch, and German, break all the Western women's publications, pulled out an interesting form of submission or concept of the article. Some of them we took from those Western magazines that were then the Russian version".

In the first room was translated materials, but fairly quickly the magazine refused them. In the state there were people who wrote for women in simple language. Style Cosmo was a revelation for the Russian audience. In fact, it was printed prototype of the modern Internet blogs: the authors of the articles talked about the situations that they got themselves or their friends, and every reader saw in these texts myself – only had to change the name of the heroine of the article on its own.

You can say Cosmopolitan has become a reflection of the rapid changes in the society of the country. The woman received the opportunity to expand your life from the kitchen and children to career and personal development, and Cosmo was a magazine about how to implement these possibilities.
